AIDS-Defining Illness: Coccidioidomycosis
This chest CT’s coronal view shows multiple micronodular opacities throughout both lung parenchyma in a patient in Southern California, a known endemic region where Coccidioides immitis, a soil fungus that causes coccidioidomycosis, is commonly found. The lesions resemble miliary tuberculosis. In endemic areas, disseminated coccidioidomycosis produces similar lesions.
