Lincosamides (clindamycinclindamycin), oxazolidinones (linezolid, tedizolidlinezolid, tedizolid), and streptogramins (dalfopristin [streptogramin A] and quinupristin [streptogramin B]) are structurally different but are grouped together because they have a similar mode of antibacterial action and similar antibacterial spectra. Macrolides (except for fidaxomicin) and (except for fidaxomicin) andchloramphenicolchloramphenicol may be included with this group for similar reasons. Certain methyl-transferase enzymes can mediate resistance to multiple members of the above classes. The erythromycin resistance methylaseerythromycin resistance methylase (erm) gene commonly mediates resistance to macrolides, clindamycin, and quinupristin but not the oxazolidinones or dalfopristin.
